Starforce: Detection
From Boycott Starforce
Primary Method
- Right-click My Computer. Select Properties. (Alternatively, you can go to System from the Control Panel).
- Click the Hardware tab. Click Device Manager.
- Go to View --> Show Hidden Devices.
- Now look for Non-Plug and Play Drivers and click the + next to it to expand it. You should see a list like this (but longer):
- Scroll down the list and if you see anything that contains the name Starforce in it.
Alternate Method There have been reports that some versions of Starforce now do not show up in the Device Manager. In this case, there is an alternate method of detection (these instructions are meant for Windows XP).
- Make sure you have view hidden files enabled in case. To do so, open a folder or My Computer and go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View. In the Advanced Options, select "Show hidden files and folders."
- Go to your Windows folder. Then open the system32 folder inside it and the drivers folder inside that. (a.k.a. go to %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\ for more advanced users)
- Look for .sys files like sfsync, sfhlp or sfdrv in the drivers folder. The files may have numbers in their name, but it makes no difference. If you find them, Starforce is installed on your computer.
